El Regreso de Yusuf Islam y su Un Other Cup

Yusuf Islam, antes llamado Cat Stevens, volvió -con su último CD "Un Other Cup"- para establecer un puente. A través de su música, este musulmán británico ha querido establecer un nexo entre occidente y el oriente islámico. Según sus propias palabras, en una entrevista concedida a la cadena de radioemisoras del norte de Alemania (NDR), en la que señaló: "No regreso realmente al negocio del espectáculo. Me siento más bien en una especie de misión, dirigida a tender puentes y reducir la brecha entre las comunidades y las culturas. Eso se acerca más a lo que yo hago. Tiene menos que ver con el negocio del espectáculo y más con la conciencia social"

"Si seguimos la palabra de Dios, veremos que Moisés divulgó la palabra de Dios, Jesús divulgó la palabra de Dios, y también Muhammad (saws)divulgó la palabra de Dios. Los profetas no hablaron nunca de sí mismos y por eso nunca se pelearon. ¿Por qué pelean sus seguidores?", indica el cantante.

"La música une a la gente y transporta "significados metafóricos y pensamientos que quizá no logramos expresar en la vida cotidiana", señala el compositor que la mayoría aún conoce como Cat Stevens. Por eso ha vuelto a tocar la guitarra y a presentarse en público. El dinero así obtenido lo destina a financiar proyectos humanitarios -desde Bosnia hasta Darfur- y las escuelas islámicas que apoya en Londres, aunque también reconoce que algo queda para él.
